How to Measure Correctly
To choose the correct size, please measure your child's body using the following guidelines.
Lay them on their back and measure from the top of their head to their heel. For children who can stand, have them stand with their back against a wall.
Measure with only a diaper on. It's also fine to weigh yourself while holding them and then subtract your own weight.
Measure around the largest part of their chest with a tape measure. Allow enough room for one finger to fit comfortably.
Measure around their belly button. If they are wearing a diaper, it's best to measure with the diaper on.
Tips for Choosing Sizes
Babies grow very quickly, and they can outgrow clothes in 2-3 months. Sleeves and hems can be folded back to adjust the fit.
For clothes to wear this season, choose "current size." For next season, "one size up" is recommended.
Rompers need extra room for diapers, so choose a snug fit. For tops and pants, one size up is often fine.
If you're unsure what size to give as a gift, size 80 is versatile. It covers a wide age range from around 6 months to 1.5 years old.
Frequently Asked Questions
I'm torn between sizes "70" and "80."+
If your baby's current height is around 70cm, we recommend size 80. Considering a baby's growth speed, size 80 will be usable for a longer period. Rompers and coveralls, in particular, cover the legs, so one size up will be more comfortable.
What about children with a chubbier build?+
If their height is within the recommended range but their weight is heavier, choose one size up. KOHANA's knits and sets are stretchy, so they will fit nicely even one size up without being baggy. Many bottoms have elastic waistbands, so you can choose based on height.
What size should I give as a baby shower gift?+
Size 80 is most recommended. Sizes 50-60 are only worn for a short period during infancy, but size 80 can be used for a long time, from around 6 months to 1.5 years old. Gender-neutral designs are even more appreciated.
How does this correspond to international sizes?+
KOHANA's sizes are based on Japanese JIS standards. US brands typically use age notations (e.g., 3M = 3 months) with longer sleeves and a slimmer fit, while European brands commonly use height notations in 6cm increments. When switching from international brands, please try one size down.
Do the clothes shrink when washed?+
Cotton materials may shrink about 1-3% after the first wash. We cut the fabric to account for shrinkage, but we recommend using a laundry net and a hand-wash cycle. For knit materials, please lay flat to dry.
